We have made available (from 8 November 2024) six rest slots for truck and trailer units in Wellington and Picton.
Drivers will be able to access toilets, showers and existing lounge facilities. This should help drivers meet their rest requirements.
This facility is available to all commercial customers on a first-in-first served basis for drivers booked onto an Interislander sailing. They are designed for use after discharging from the ferry rather than before the sailing.
Drivers will need to check in and out of the facility using a QR Code. This code will be provided at check in prior to boarding for use on arrival at the destination.
The rest facility is to be used by 'clean' CV units and trucks must have a rest cab for drivers. Livestock trucks and those carrying dangerous goods can't use the rest facility. It also can't be used for driver exchanges or temporary parking.
As with all visits to our terminals, health and safety rules and our usage terms and conditions have to be followed.
The CV Driver rest area (“CV Rest Area”) is being provided by Interislander to support commercial vehicle customers. This CV Rest Area remains within the Interislander operational terminal and requires users to adhere to these Conditions of Use.
By parking your vehicle in the CV Rest Area, you agree to these Conditions of Use, which apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you agree that they apply from the moment that you drive your vehicle into the CV Rest Area. If you are not the owner of the vehicle, by parking the vehicle in this CV Rest Area, you warrant that you are authorised to bind the owner of the vehicle you are driving to these Conditions of Use.
These Conditions of Use incorporate the KiwiRail Rail Freight and Interislander Commercial Vehicle Freight Conditions of Carriage which will apply to your use of the CV Rest Area.
The CV Rest Area may be used on an “as available” space basis. KiwiRail accepts no liability or obligation for the provision of these rest facilities and may close this area at any time, at Interislander’s sole discretion, to meet Interislander’s operational, safety and security requirements.
Interislander’s site safety rules must be complied with at all times, including all site rules and directions and staff instructions.
General site requirements when on site include:
Any vehicle entering the CV Rest Area must have a current COF, registration and be roadworthy and meet the NZTA standard for a ‘rest cab’.
It is not intended that KiwiRail personnel will inspect vehicles to check compliance, but KiwiRail reserves the right to do so.
The rest area is available on a “first come first served” basis for commercial vehicle customers immediately prior to or following a booked sailing on an Interislander ship.
The area may be used for up to 10 hours at a time to support driver rest management.
Customers must register usage via the On-Site sign-in system on arrival and departure. If unable to access the sign-in system via QR code, drivers must sign in and sign out of the rest area at the CV check in office.
You agree that you will be liable for any damage to this rest area, or any other vehicle or property caused by you or your vehicle.
You agree not to obstruct or be a nuisance to other drivers or vehicles using the CV Rest Area.
If you are in breach of any of these Conditions of Use, Interislander may require you to immediately leave the area or have your vehicle removed.
The CV Rest Area is provided by Interislander to support drivers in their management of their compliance with driver rest regulations. KiwiRail accepts no responsibility for managing driver logbook requirements or regulating driver work hours.
This area may not be used by vehicles undertaking livestock shipment.
This area may not be used for DG storage.
This area may not be used for driver exchanges, or any temporary parking of vehicles or trailers.
Interislander accepts no liability for any loss or damage to your vehicle or any other vehicle, or for any loss or damage to any contents or property in your vehicle or any other vehicle or any loss, costs or claims resulting from use of the CV Rest Area.
